MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — Of the 984,000 Floridians who signed up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, nearly half were from South Florida.

An Enroll America analysis of the federal government’s data shows 257,088 signed up in Miami-Dade County, 152,632 in Broward and 75,648 in Palm Beach. Florida led enrollment among the 36 states using the federal exchange healthcare.gov.

The organization says the data will help them target outreach efforts for the next enrollment period that starts on Nov. 15.

On Tuesday, federal health officials said consumers will also have more options to choose from this fall. Four new health insurance companies will offer plans to Floridians.

Nationally there will be a net 25 percent increase in the number of issuers offering coverage in 2015. In total, 77 new issuers will offer health plans on the federal exchange.
